Alpin
Privacy Policy
Last updated September 2026
Alpin does not collect your data. There is no account to create, there are no servers, and the app contains no networking code at all. Nothing you do in Alpin is transmitted anywhere, because there is nowhere for it to go.
That is the entire policy. The rest of this page explains what the app does with the sensors it asks permission for, and why it needs them.
The permissions Alpin asks for
Alpin requests three permissions. Each is used live, on your device, and only while you are using the tool that needs it.
Location. The Wayfinding tool shows your elevation, coordinates and compass heading. Alpin reads your location from iOS to display those numbers on screen. It does not record them, log them, or send them anywhere — close the tool and the reading is gone.
Camera. The Inclinometer and Slide Zone tools show a live camera preview so you can line the tool up against the terrain in front of you. Alpin never takes a photo or video, never writes an image to disk, and never transmits one. The preview exists only on screen, while you are looking at it.
Motion. Measuring a slope angle means reading how the phone is tilted. Alpin uses the device’s motion sensors for that calculation and for nothing else.
What Alpin stores on your device
Your preferences — units, whether to use true north, alignment assistance, and which tutorials you have already seen. These are saved locally using standard iOS storage. They never leave your phone, and deleting the app deletes them.
Alpin stores nothing else.
What we can see
Because Alpin has no servers, we have no access to anything on your device. We cannot see where you have been, what you measured, or when you opened the app.
Apple gives us the same aggregate App Store reports it gives every developer: download totals, the countries they came from, and similar summary figures. These are anonymous and are not tied to individuals. If you have chosen in iOS to share analytics with developers, Apple may also pass on crash reports. You can change that at any time under Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements.
Children
Alpin is not directed at children under 13. As the app collects no personal information from anyone, it collects none from children.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the revised version will be posted here with a new date. Alpin has collected nothing since it launched in 2018, and we intend to keep it that way.
