A phone decides which way is up from how it is being held when the shutter fires. Hold it still and it gets that right. Take it running, climbing or riding, and it guesses, and a surprising share of those guesses are wrong. The pictures are fine; the orientation recorded with them is not, so they show up sideways and stay that way.
Photo Tidy(er) reads each photo the way a person would: whose face is upright, which way people are standing, which way the text on a sign or a race bib reads, in any language. It groups shots from the same outing, weighs each photo against the ones around it, and suggests a fix only when the evidence agrees.
What it does
- Finds sideways photos. Scan the last month, a date range, an album or a whole library. Analysis is saved as it goes, so a big first scan can stop and pick up where it left off.
- Fixes them in bulk. Swipe through suggestions one at a time, or review them in a grid, then fix them all in one tap. Each fix is an ordinary edit in Photos, so Revert undoes it.
- Checks overnight. While the phone charges, new photos are checked, and a notification in the morning says whether any need fixing.
- Stages photos for a post. Shots about to be shared are marked as favorites, or put in a temporary album, and cleared once the post is up. Photos that were already favorites stay that way.
Everything runs on the device. There is no account, no server and no tracking, and photos never leave the phone. Staging is free, the first ten fixes are free, and a one-time purchase unlocks the rest.
